Leadership Effectiveness: Leading in the New Year

Executive Vitality: Think, Reflect, Evaluate and EnvisionThe start of a new year is a really great time for you to brush off your old feedback reports from way back when, revisit that old Myers-Briggs assessment, take a look at your old performance reviews, and ask, “So, what have I learned?” and, “What do I need to start doing, stop doing, and continue doing?”

In our experience, executives’ personalities don’t change, their behavior does. So, what behaviors do you need to address in 2014? How do you know? Is it time to do another assessment? When was the last time you received specific feedback about your leadership effectiveness?

The best leaders are committed to self-improvement and continue to get feedback rather than sit on their successes of the past.

You are a role model. You are always on. In your role as a leader, you do not have the luxury of stepping outside the boundaries of your organization’s vision and values. You have the responsibility to “do the right thing the right way” so that everyone in the organization follows your credible leadership model.

As this year begins, ask yourself these questions:

  • What have I learned about myself as a leader?
  • Have I improved my leadership effectiveness?
  • Do I “live” like a role model for the company’s values?
  • Do others perceive me to be a role model for the company’s values?

Then, find a way to measure your self-assessment against others’ assessment of you. Where there are gaps, develop a plan and make a commitment to make 2014 the best year ever. If you want additional help, just call us: 714-278-9399.
